Position: Applications Scientist

Reports to: Director of Applications and New Technologies

Position Location: Company HQ in Suburban Philadelphia, PA

The Applications Scientist will be responsible for major contributions to the Applications, Commercial, and Product Development teams that will take our HRIM platform to support commercial success. The Application Scientist will also play a key role in presenting complex scientific data in a clear and impactful manner, tailoring information to customer needs. In the immediate term, the candidate will be responsible for the method development of applications aligned to support our strategic business objectives through new applications proof of concept (PoC) studies, collaborations, demos, and new product development support. The Applications Scientist will be responsible for translating complex scientific concepts into clear, concise messages that resonate with commercial audiences, ensuring the practical value and benefits of the product are effectively communicated. The role requires a strong background in proteomics, including expertise in advanced protein characterization methods such as middle-down and top-down proteomics, with additional experience in oligonucleotide analysis being highly desirable. The position requires a highly motivated person with a reputation for integrity and accountability with sound technical and interpersonal skills.

(1) HRIM-MS Operation and Application

  • Apply knowledge and understanding of SLIM to design experiments and showcase HRIM benefits, resolving issues with methods as needed
  • Process and interpret ion mobility and mass spectrometry data, identifying insights during the data interpretation process
  • Independently modifies protocols as required (within guidelines) to meet project requirements
  • Independently creates presentations of technical outcomes to customers and provides instrumentation demonstrations (live and virtual).
  • Collaborates with an interdisciplinary team to ensure the product performance meets customer needs, achieved by testing and suggesting product improvements on prototypes and production units.
  • Develops expertise in specific SLIM application areas to solve customer challenges
  • Conducts continual literature review for relevant applications, competitive information, and peer-reviewed journal articles.
  • Adhere to policies, procedures, and protocols to ensure compliance with regulatory and industry standards and practices.
  • Independently manages time and resources to drive delivery of successful projects within the prescribed time frame.

(2) External Engagement & Interaction

  • Builds productive external working relationships by collaborating on methods and procedures.
  • Works with customers to provide support and resolve issues as expeditiously as possible.
  • Attends and presents at industry conferences to help create SLIM advocates.
  • Collect compelling data to develop high-quality collateral, including journal articles, conference posters, and marketing materials, which effectively communicates the value and capabilities of MOBIE

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree with minimum 5 years of experience; or a Master’s degree with 3 years of experience; or a PhD (no experience required).
  • Strong expertise in high resolution mass spectrometry and ion mobility techniques (method development experience a plus), with hands-on experience in liquid chromatography (HPLC and UPLC)
  • Extensive experience in proteomics, with a focus on designing, optimizing, and implementing workflows for the analysis of complex protein samples
  • Proficient in data processing with the ability to work independently
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical data into compelling, customer-focused narratives that effectively highlight the value and capabilities of the instrument
  • Strong background in data analysis, including statistics and spectral interpretation.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience in middle-down and top-down proteomics workflows, with demonstrated knowledge of advanced protein characterization methods.
  • Knowledge of oligonucleotide analysis and related mass spectrometry applications.
